STEAM in Kinnitty - Vex IQ Robotics
Vex Robotics introduces young children to technology subjects (STEM) through this fun and interactive programme. The project is an example of a unique collaboration between scientists, engineers and schools and with experts in the field of STEM education all working together towards a shared vision in delivering a high quality STEM education programme to schools and children. It involves a process of collaborative design, reinforcing what is being taught in the curriculum and extending learning beyond the curriculum into real world contexts. The VEX Robotics project enables STEM engagement by connecting curriculum content with the reality of science.
Our school has been involved in the project for two years until Covid-19. Ray Bell from Offaly County Council has been an invaluable support to us throughout the process and we thank him sincerely.
With the growing societal demand to enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) instruction in classrooms and beyond, there is a need for integrated learning programmes that allow students to engage in a meaningful way in STEM.
We are delighted to be one of the 16 schools chosen by Offaly County Council to participate in the VEX IQ challenge. It is an ideal platform for exploring important STEM fundamentals and we are so excited to open our two new VEX IQ boxes containing materials for this year's challenge!
